This is the block that was with her others that was lost.

I have been in a round robin based on Downton Abbey this past few months. It is the first one I have entered in about 15 years or when I was a newbie. I think it will be my last. There are 5 of us in this RR = should have been six but one gal had to drop out before we started hence 5 of us. We are to do a block a month and we work on one entire block then mail on to the next person. When finished we will receive 4 finished blocks and one left to be done by ourselves.

All was going well until May 19 when I mailed a large envelope with the block I had just finished from Mt. Dora to Jackson, TN. It was supposed to arrive 2-3 days later and still has not arrived. The post office is supposedly doing a search for it. I feel very bad because 1 gals 5 blocks were in there. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will find it somewhere and it will be returned.

The following 3 blocks are the ones I have completed with one more block to be done that I have not received yet. Here are the 3 I have done.

I still have the cold and the black eye but am slowly improving.

In April Renningers had their vintage garden weekend and it is always lovely with lots of flowers and antiques worth buying. I had just about made it out with a few small things and then I came upon this lst booth. I looked at what was hanging and could not help myself. She had 2 jackets and 1 skirt that she was selling for the maker.

I ended up buying a jacket and skirt. They were brand new and signed Forever Yours b y Karen. It was dated 1994. 21 years ago. Apparently the gal used to make these and ship them to 2 boutiques in the Carolinas. They sold in the $200. plus range at that time. I paid $100. for the 2 pieces. I have worn the jacket and may never wear the skirt. It is very full and if I do I will probably remove a couple of sections first.

I wore the jacket to the annual garden club luncheon that Sue belongs to and it is held in the private Inverness Country Club in Inverness. Sue is a member and takes me for Mother's Day every year. I just made it back in time for this year being later coming home.

I have snapped a couple of pics then Harv took a couple with me wearing the jacket. Here goes:

It was a wonderful trip with my daughter Sue. Just know that if you travel with someone that much younger they will run the feet of you. One day we walked almost 6 miles and another day about 4.
We spent 2 nights in Dublin and 4 in Belfast which is the area where family came from. I had been to Dublin before but Sue had not. She planned our itinerary and kept me hopping and we saw far more then I would have ever seen by myself or with Harv. We took the train from Dublin to Belfast then same on return with a taxi from there to the airport.

Everything went very well. Hotels we picked were great except the Dublin one was better then the Belfast one for less money. Speaking of money - Dublin is on the Euro while Northern Ireland is on the British pound. Had to keep switching back and forth. The people at both could not do enough for you. Very accommodating. All the people we had contact with were very friendly and when they heard your accent went out of their way to be helpful. Taxi drivers supplied us with Irish history.

All went well until Sunday night (we were leaving Monday morning back to Dublin and home) we took a tour of the northern Antrim coast which took us up to the top of Ireland. At some points you could see Scotland in the distance. We left at 9.30 and arrived back at 7.00 pm. We got off the bus and crossed the old cobblestone lane to get a taxi and my foot caught in one and down I went. I landed on my left side and my face hit but not my head. I was okay just a little shaken but got up and caught a taxi back to the hotel where they kept me in ice packs to take down the swelling. Monday morning I woke up with a magnificent black eye. Here is a selfie I just took of myself. I am living in sunglasses - sun or not.
I also caught Sue.s cold and now when I cough I have to hold my sides and ribs and please don't make me laugh.

I will be back with some pics when we get them altogether.

Time has just flown since we returned. The first week always does with all the food shopping, cleaning, getting organized, etc. I have had my dentist 6 month cleaning this week so that is behind me.
Harv went the next day so he is done also.

My daughter has done a tremendous amount of work for this trip. She just found out last night that my Father's family moved from their little town to Belfast and has the address of his house. It turns out that it is only about 2-3 blocks from our hotel. I couldn't believe it. We will definitely go by there. Apparently it is for sale and I suggested to Harv he might want to buy it. I better not get any ideas.

We leave Monday 25 and return Monday June 1 so it will be a quick visit.

Will take lots of pics and show when we return. Hugs Freda

ps - I am feeling back to my old self. Thank goodness.
First we flew home for Christmas to be with Sue when she had her surgery. We were able to spend Christmas with the 2 families and our 6 grandkids. The Mon. after Christmas Sue had her surgery and I was so glad we decided to go up. She had a very bad surgery - much more intensive and invasive then her colon surgeon had anticipated. As he said, you never know what you are going to find until you get in there. He found a massive tumor which had invaded her colon and bowel and it all had to be removed. The one good thing is there was no cancer. She was in a lot of pain that they could not control well and both Jon and I took turns being with her until the weekend after when she went home on the Sunday.

The horrible thing was Jon's Father Phil had a massive heart attack on the Fri. morning (the day after New Years) just as I arrived at the hospital they had called Jon and he left immediately. His Father passed away before he got there. Phil was cremated and Ann had a Memorial Service for him the following Mon. Sue could not attend because she could not get around. She did put together a wonderful family eulogy that a good friend of the family read. We were all there and there were more people then I have ever seen at a funeral. They invited all back to dinner at a nearby restaurant who could make it and I believe there were around 120 there plus all the ones who did not stay for that. In the midst of this there was a raging snow storm and I wondered if we were all going to make it back to our homes. It is usually about an hour drive from St. Charles to our house. Took us about 2 hrs. going 20 miles per h r.

We stayed in Chicago a couple of weeks then back to Florida. Sue had to go in for reconstructive surgery 6 weeks after and we did not go up for that. She has healed well and we are so thankful.
Jon had a business dinner in Hawaii and they decided to take all 3 boys (school breaks all co-operated) and they had a great time.

I continued to have some health problems with my shoulders, neck and a persistent migraine type headache that played hell with me off and on for months that meds could not take away.. Some days I could hardly move my head. We took x-rays and finally an MRI and found that I have 3 degenerative disks in my neck at C3 to C6. They sent me to a pain management Dr. and he has started a series of epidural cervical shots. I have had 2 - 2 weeks apart and my 3rd. is tomorrow morning. This is why we are still in Florida. They have really helped and I am feeling like my old self for the first time since last year. Until then I did not feel like blogging, talking on the phone, etc.
I am also on muscle relaxants 3 times a day. Will see what happens when I go off them.

I did continue working on my hexagons when I could and finally finished last week. They were such fun to work with I hated to see them end. I actually made more then I needed for a wall hanging and I will have to find something to do with them. I have one idea that may work. If I can remember how to post pics I will do so.
It was such fun working with colors like orange, lime green, hot pick, etc. Have no idea where this will hang but someday maybe one of the grands would like it for an apt.

Thank you for being my friends and inquiring about my health as some of you had wondered where I was. Well FredaB is back and I am also on Facebook.

FredaBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000510495713705938noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156446618762973579.post-71710306571933380412014-12-23T15:02:00.001-08:002014-12-23T15:02:19.266-08:00ON THE ROAD AGAIN
It has been 2 months since I have blogged and what a 2 months it has been. I was suffering from back pain spreading into the legs and buttocks for awhile when we first came down to Florida late Oct. Since then it became worse and I started on a series of tests, x-rays, scans, therapy and finally an MRI which showed 2 things causing the pain. One is a cyst on my L3-5 spine area and the other a protruding and degenerated disk at L5-SI - both things pressing on nerves which cause the pain. I am on pain pills and an exercise program to help alleviate it. Next are shots in the 2 areas to see if that works. This will not happen until I return to Florida.

Next I was shopping in an area about 15 miles from Mount Dora and luckily Harv. was with me as he was going to get a haircut and then we were having lunch. After coming out of the store I almost collapsed and was having a TIA. I felt the numbness in my tongue, arm and leg but got in the van and told Harv. He immediately took me to the nearest hospital. By the time we arrived and they got me inside it had resolved itself. A very small blood clot must have caused it. They took every test imaginineable and could not find any cause for it. Also there was no lasting damage.I spent overnight there then they released me the second night. Nothing to do but take a baby aspirin a day. I feel fine and hope this is the end of it.

We also lost Harv's youngest sister Beth in Toronto in early December. She was ill and taken to the hospital. She was just there for 3 weeks and they determined she had Lymphoma cancer and before they could start treatment she passed away. Her body was so weakened. We were all in shock.

My daughter phoned me last Sunday night and informed me she had had a colonoscopy and they had found a small mass (oxymoron ?) that showed benign on the biopsy but has to be removed. She is going in for surgery Mon. Dec. 29th to have it removed. We immediately booked air tickets and flew home 2 days ago. We will be with all the family for Christmas and also here for Sue and will stay a few weeks while she recovers.

All in all this is why I haven't been blogging. I have been working on my hexies and have about 30 done. Working on them has kept me sane. When I return to Florida I will take pics and post them for you to see.

Merry Christmas to all my dear cyber friends wherever you are and hope you are able to enjoy your families and good friends at this time of year.

Hugs
I have 11 finished with the black border but have not done the feather stitching around them. I am not sure if I want them all one colour or various colours.

10 pieced and embellished waiting for the black backing and 33 pieced waiting to be worked on. Also 6 half ones for the filling in of the sides. Depending on how large it will be I will not know until I get to Florida. We are leaving around the end of the month. I have 10 more pieces of muslin with the pattern drawn on them and will piece them if needed.
Here are 2 more of the hexies. I have roughly 12 made and completed with the black backing. I have made another 30 or so that need to be embellished and finished. I am working on trying to get all of them pieced before I leave for Florida so I do not have to take all the fabric with me. Just the thin batting and black fabric. The problem is I do not know how many I will need for a wallhanging until I get to Florida and see where it will hang. I also have not done the featherstitching around them. That will be great for sitting and stitching in florida in the sunroom. Great light.

I am wandering my kitchen trying to shut doors that do not exist. I told Harv we are like trained monkeys used to things one way only. I am doing a great clean out which has been long needed. I wish I had taken some before pics so I could show you the after. Will show you that anyway.

I have not pressed the edges after sewing down. I am not sure if I should or if that would make it harder to fit into each other. I laid out what I had made so far and they fit nicely. So far so good.

I believe in my first post I said the hexies were like little works of art. I did not mean that as such. I meant that each one is like a little story in itself. Just wanted to clear that up . Now to the sewing room to piece more.

Same color as now but nice and fresh. I found a company that refinishes existing cabinets if they are good wood. Ours were solid oak and weigh a ton. There are 36 cabinet doors and 24 drawers. They took one door and did a sample and I was amazed at what a beautiful job they did. They even filled in the holes from the old knobs so that you can place new ones anywhere you want. I have picked a colour called Whiskey Maple. It is a little darker then the existing oak but also has the glaze over it. They come into the home and refinish all the existing wood that is exposed.

They tell me they will have it all done by the time we leave for Florida which will be in a month or so. I also have to go out and buy new handles or knobs. We will talk about the counter tops in the Spring. I will get a new sink and faucet then. My counter tops look like new and are a plain almond colour but the kids say they have to be marble or stylestone, etc. to stay with the times.

Well back to sewing. I have been working hard piecing the hexies. I want them to be all pieced before I leave for Florida so I don't have to take all the fabric with me. Bad enough taking all I do take and even then what you want is never where you are. Joys of being a snowbird.
Here are 2 hexies I have finished.

It was held at the Heartland Center just a few miles from the airport.

I had a great time and would encourage any of you who would be able to attend a retreat to do so. The rooms were comfortable and the 3 meals a day were very good. After 55 years of cooking for my man it is really nice when I get a chance to have my meals cooked for me. I will never complain about the cooking.

It started on Wed. and ran thru Sun. I flew out of Chicago and the flight was only 1 hour 20 mins. long. It was so good to see some familiar faces and even more so get to put a face to a name I have been seeing on CQ Embellishers and CQI. I know a lot of the gals from when the retreats were in Omaha. Carol from Claremont is a good friend and I get to see her in Florida in the winter. We room together if we are ever at the same retreat.

It is very informal dress wise. You just bring stitching to work on if you want and informal classes are taught by the gals who can. Lisa Boni taught 2 very good classes on intermediate embroidery and beading on seams. Both classes had a large turnout and were thoroughly enjoyed. Lisa had handouts for all.

Barb Warner was to teach a class on buttons but unfortunately did not come as she ended up in the hospital with blood clots in both lungs. Poor Barb. She is home now and recovering nicely with the help of her hubby and daughter who is an RN. Her class was picked up by Tahlia from Washington State who filled in admirably.

There are a few highlights every year at the retreat but the one enjoyed by all is the gift swap. The gifts quite often are handmade CQ items but can be anything sewing related. Gift boxes filled with fabrics, trims, etc. are coveted. It is a Chinese auction ? where you pick a number and all the boxes, etc. are piled on the tale and #1 gets to pick first. Now #2 can either take a new item or can steal away the first item. After being stolen twice it is retired. One of the most saught after is Laurie B's wonderful black velvet bears embellished to the hilt. This never lasts with the 1st or second person.

I actually stole my gift after it had been stolen once and therefore got to keep it. It was a box put together by Connie Kalina. The interesting thing about this was the colour. A beautiful soft pink in various shades. Connie died the fabrics, laces, ribbons, etc. with AVACADO skins and the inside pit.
You would think green but out came this beautiful pink shade.

I am attaching a few picks so you can see the items. She also made the 2 beautiful buttons herself. What a gal.

Now you can see why I stole this. I will have to make something special and use it all together. Maybe a wonderful journal. Stay tuned for the future.

Starting with the hexagons I had intended to post more often but was hit with a virus in August that went on for about 3 weeks and included a terrible headache that went up and down and awful muscle aches. At one point I did not think I would make the retreat but cleared up the weekend before. thank goodness.

I have more hexagons made plus about 30 pieced ready to take to Florida. They are a lot of fun. Little works of art in each one.

Here is a few pics showing how I do the hexagons. The first pic shows the muslin backing that I have drawn the hex outline on it. Next I draw the piecing lines with very light pencil so they will not show threw in case a fabric colour is light. Next I turn it over and redraw the outline only on the back of the muslin. This line is for sewing down when all the block is pieced.

Next I piece the block with my fabrics. After this I pin the fabrics then turn it to the wrong side and stitch all around the line I have drawn. Then I stitch again about 3/8" inside that line and you will end up with the back looking like this.

Please hit the read more as this is continued on another page for some reason.

When all the sewing is finished you will have a hex all ready for stitching and embellishing. You will note that I leave a very small margin of muslin but that is because I never cq in a hoop so extra fabric is not necessary. If you use a hoop you will have to leave additional for this.

When embellishing is all finished cut away the muslin and extra fabric as close to the outer black stitching line as possible. It will now be ready to add the batting and backing fabric of your choice. I am using black cotton sateen even though very little will show.

The reason for the inner sewing line is for when you will be adding the backing that will turn over. It will be 1" larger all around then your cutout. You will turn it 1/2" then 1/2" over the hex nd it will just cover the black stitching and will not be seen. If you are using light fabrics you will want to use a light color thread that will not show threw your binding.

I have made up about 25 squares so far and here is a pic of a few ready to stitch on.

I really did not have too much of interest to show you but now I am cqing again.

I have been watching Viv from Australia and her hexagons she has been sharing on CQI.. She is doing a fantastic job and she did post a tutorial on how she does hers. I also saw the book Foolproof Crazy Quilting by Jennifer Clouston which is all about the hexagon quilt she made. This is one of the best books on CQ based on the fact that she supplies plenty of patterns and also cq instructions for 25 hexagons. This would be such a help for a beginner and is certainly a help to us oldies when we run out of ideas.

I decided to make mine out of jewel and very bright fabrics and it gives me a chance to use some of my considerable stash of fabric, threads, beads, etc. I will outline all mine in black which will make the colors stand out.

Here is the first one I have finished.
We had a huge family and friends party to celebrate Kyle's graduation from Fremd High School. He will be attending the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. I never counted but guess something like 50 people coming and going. Lots of good food and seeing old friends of my daughters and their families. Wonderful memories.
I have been gone for over a month and feel bad. Unfortunately life gets in my way and computer problems do not help. We left Florida mid May and returned to our Chicago home. T here is so much to do here when we return in the spring because this is where my garden is. In Florida it is hanging baskets and indoor orchids and plants in the sunroom so is easy in comparison. Ourdeck was in terrible shape and needed both cleaning and staining. Our deck is very large and covers the complete back of the house with 3 step down levels. I could not find anyone interested in cleaning. The kids were all still in school or not home yet and our gardeners were so far behind with the bad spring they are still trying to catch up. I hauled the power washer out of the shed and did it myself until it stopped working. We need a new part that is not in stock. My daughter said I will bring you ours and she did and proceeded to wash the last section of deck. Then it had to dry and I stained it in sections. It looks really good. I had to do this before I could all the planters out and plant them so I am really still behind.

This weekend my son and DIL are coming in from Minnesota for our daughter's oldest boys graduation from High School. He heads off to the University of Illinois in Aug. His Mother, Father, Uncle (from MN) and his great Grandpa Erickson all went to U of I. It is getting so hard to get into some of these schools but he really tried hard and had excellent grades so he made it. We are proud of you Kyle.

We will be celebrating his graduation, Fathers Day, her middle boys birthday and her FILs birthday. One big party plus family friends. It will be a big bash.

I wanted to show you the bridal bag I made along with Karen Ruane last Fall. Karen's daughter was getting married in October and Karen made one for her and I just followed along. No future bride yet but with 1 grandaughter and 5 grandsons someone will hopefully wear white and want it. I had a great time making it. Hundreds of French Knots, bullions and web stitches. I have the pic where I had stretched it when the outside was completely finished. I also made the lining out of silk and decorated all around the outside of it because when gathered that is what shows. I finished it the day before I left for Florida but did not have time to take pics of the finished bag. Here it is:
I have always loved these old, etched mirrors. I stopped, looked and then said NO Freda you don't need this. On I went home and all the next week I thought about it. I went back the next sunday and could not find the booth. I stopped and talked to a vendor I know and he said oh I just saw one being loaded into van about 2 spaces up. I thought well you should have bought it when you had the chance. I wandered up and said to the gal that I had looked at it and she said that could not have been mine because all I had was a dresser with a large mirror.

Around the market I went and there it was. this time just a little bartering and it was mine. A neighbor and her hubby helped me hang it in my bathroom. That large wall needs something large. I am very pleased every time I go in there and see it. Now if I could only figure out how to photograph it without all the other stuff showing up in there including me.
Valerie happened to be showing this egg she had made and I just had to make one. I made up my own pattern and with a few starts and stops I ended up with my version. t is roughly the same size as Valeries I think. It was fun to do.
I need a few more additions to it that I did not have in Florida and could not find around here. I am so happy that we have a Hobby Lobby right near us now and no longer have to drive farther to a JoAnnes just for a spool of thread or other small things.
I have one of Gerry's beautiful painted rabbit buttons at home and will bring that back next Fall and attach.

This was a fun project and Valerie does sell her pattern on her web site.
Harv and I are having a quiet Easter. No company. I have a small turkey breast thawed and ready to cook. I am going to make a egg custard pie for dessert. Haven't made one of these in years. Well this wedding gown was another item that came home with me.

It is a very pale off white and the material in the skirt is one of the nicest satins I have ever seen. It might be silk peau de soie. I remember it was used extensively in wedding dresses going back probably in my time. I found on Google they describe it as a very soft silk satin.
This was a double. Should have been the back of it but I think you get the picture.

I took a class from Nellie Wortman on making a journal to keep paper and a pen in it. At the same time Suzy Q had a blog about making this kind of journal. Between the two this is what I came up with. It is picture heavy.

Thank you both Nellie and Suzy for your inspiration.FredaBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000510495713705938noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156446618762973579.post-73568272667630215562014-03-26T11:15:00.001-07:002014-03-26T11:15:29.583-07:00sWADDLINGI am again in a course with Karen Ruane called SS4. This one is spread over 6 months and will be slower with fewer videos. Mainly watching Karen s she creates which is a wonderful thing to watch.

She started making a swaddling band that was used for centuries to bind babies when they were born.
They did it to keep their limbs straight and strong. People still wrap newborn babies but only to keep them feeling safe and warm. When I see a mother out with a fairly new baby and they are only in a sunsuit, etc. I always have the feeling of wanting to rush over and say why don't you wrap the baby up in a soft blanket. Different times, different ways I guess.

To get back to the bands she started making them in pieces and using old transfers on the silk to honor her grandmothers and others who always used these transfers on pillowcases, dresser scarves, etc.

She is also going to make some small ledger books to incorporate items along with this band.
I am showing the 1st. piece I have finished and a piece to go in a ledger. It is on the cork board and was dam stretched. This makes such a difference in the end piece. This will have to be done in sections then pieces joined later. This can be made as long as you wish. When I run out of ideas I will have to stop.

We also ironed on a light interfacing to the actual paper transfer we used to make it like a fabric. The second from the top piece and the third from the bottom piece are both paper.

This is on watercolor paper with hexagons made with fabric that I transferred the images to plus french knots.

I am not sure how good this will show up but the top is FME lace fabric that I made, then an opening made for the transfer paper itself underneath and then some FME stitching on the watercolor paper itself.

I must say that the ideas above are not mine but Karen's. I am putting some ideas of my own in the next piece that I am working on now.FredaBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000510495713705938noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156446618762973579.post-49877069031772118722014-03-17T14:41:00.001-07:002014-03-17T14:41:11.003-07:00VERY HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAYMy daughter gave me a very lovely present. It started with her 5th grader needing some answers to family geneology. She had Harv's youngest sister send her some family info as she is the one in the family who has been doing it for years. Well she sent much more then Sue asked for and that got her started. I mentioned that I wished someone had done some on my Father's family as he came to Canada alone as a young man in 1925. The rest of the family was still in Ireland.

Well Sue went to Registry.com, paid the monthly fee and has just blown me away with what she has been able to find out. She found out tons of family info going back a few generations and also some interesting pictures. My Grandmother Susan McAleish died in Ireland of influenza before my Father left Ireland. I had never seen a picture of her until last Friday and Sue sent me this. She also found pictures of 2 of his sisters and my Father's sailing certificate when he came to Canada which also told us what ship he arrived on. We still have to find my Mothers certificate who came in 1925 with her family.

Well wouldn't you know that blogger will not let me download her picture so you can see her. Says it must be a picture or a file and cannot be downloaded. Since when can pictures not be downloaded?

Well all I can say is my daughter has made me very happy and when we get home this summer we will continue on with records that I have at home. I will have to see if Harv. can figure this out and then I will print it.FredaBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000510495713705938noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156446618762973579.post-58793964364786607442014-03-13T16:56:00.004-07:002014-03-13T16:56:48.822-07:00Downton AbbeyLast Saturday our local library held a Downton Abbey tea party. You were invited to come dressed up if you cared to and if not come as you are. Tickets were $5.00 each and 2 neighbours and I decided to attend.

I did not have any clothes that fit the occasion except this old silk blouse and a long black skirt. the blouse was down here for me to cut-up for Crazy Quilting and I had forgotten it in the back of the cupboard.

The gal that ran it has a group called Ladies Tea Adventure and she did a nice job. We had a wonderful tea from England called The Prince of Wales and crepes suzettes were served as the dessert.
They meet once a month at various places and tea rooms and always wear hats, etc.

I only took a couple of pics then my camera battery ran out. You never think of it until it does.

This is the gal that ran the afternoon tea. A beautiful child's dress can also be seen. I was going to take a closeup but the camera was gone.

This is the group we sat with. Some dressed up some not. I think the ladies who dressed up belong to this club and hence have hats and outfits to wear.

This is also a neighbour of mine who did not come with us but is one of the ladies group. She had her hat made special for this occasion. She looks very glamorous.

This is me in my purple blouse (no hat) and my neighbour in the middle. The 3 rd. gal could not make it. The lady in the turquois came by herself and sat with us and we both enjoyed her company. She is also a snow bird and is from Ohio.

They played 2 games with the first being "Quotes of Characters from DA". Half were made by Maggie Smith which you can imagine as that is what she is famous for in this role. There were 25 questions in this one.

The 2nd was "A Downton Abbey Quiz". there were 30 various questions in this one and even though I haven't missed an episode I couldn't remember almost half. Very obscure questions.

There were prizes and the grand prize was a beautiful tea pot and it was won by the gal in the hat above.

I do have copies of both of these so if anyone wants them for a party, etc. just let me know and I can send them to you.FredaBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000510495713705938noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156446618762973579.post-66481797562848103812014-03-04T15:33:00.003-08:002014-03-04T15:33:26.624-08:00HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIEYou will enjoy this one Kim (family).

My one and only grandaughter had her 19th birthday Feb. 20. If you remember I made her a journal of pictures from when she was little and used to come visit and spend weekends. We used to read a lot and her favorite books were written by an author named Kevin Henkes. Well this year I happened to see an ad for his books in the book section of the paper and it took me back quite a few years.

I went on line and ordered quite a few of her favorites from our library system and when they arrived I thought I would make her a card with photos and words from some of her favorites. Her all time favorite was Lily and her Purple Plastic Purse given to Lily by her grandmother and filled with shiny bright quarters.

Here is the accordian type card I made for her.
What I did not know was what friends we would become. You know what it is like when you meet someone and you immediately connect. Well that is what Charlene and I did. The fact that she likes antiquing, flea marketing, etc. certainly didn't hurt. She had owned a antique booth in one of the local markets for 8 years and just sold it before she moved in here. I go to that market occasionally and have probably bought stuff from her over the years.

Well a couple of weeks ago she took me antiquing to an area I had never been to before (she knows them all). We left around 10 am and returned home at 5.30pm. Tired but happy. We had a great time including a delicious lunch at a lovely restaurant that caters to ladies.

Over the course of the day I managed to find quite a few things. One of which I will show you today.

The above was a velvet covered board with all the beautiful lace pieces taped to it. there are 14 pcs.
in all and a great assortment. This cost 20.00. I was more then happy to pay that for them. The board will come in handy to film other items on.

This closeup shows the one long piece in the middle.

This one shows the very pretty white one. I did have a very similar one that I used on a Christmas cone.

I can certainly use them in my cq work and lace books I hope to make.

I have more from that day that I will show you soon.
